1. Advertise Your Home Security
One of the most beneficial things that you can do is advertize your use of a security system. This can be done by placing a placard or sign from your security company on your window or in your front yard. Studies show that a house that has a home security sign on their property has a significantly lower chance of having their house broke into. Burglars are often looking for houses that are easy targets, and homes that have home security systems are far from being easy targets.
2. Have Your System Monitored By A Security Monitoring Service
While merely having a security system is often protection enough to give your family an added level of security; having that system monitored by a professional monitoring service can add an even greater level of protection.
3. Add Outdoor Lighting
Outdoor lighting works very well in conjunction with a home security system. If your house is lit by exterior lighting, it can prevent criminals from marking your home as an easy target.
4. Remove External Clutter
When having your security system installed, be sure that the exterior of your house is free from clutter. Many criminals will use objects in your yard as a place to hide and monitor the times you enter and leave the home. Removing the external clutter around your home will remove these natural hiding places.
5. Keep Your Alarm Armed
Alarm systems only work when they are armed. There are many instances of people who have installed alarm systems, only to not turn them on a regular basis. Whenever you leave the house or go to bed for the night, you should arm your system. That way it can protect offer you the protection that it was designed to offer.
